‘don’t toy with our lives’

Today, the Hon Donna Faragher MLC met with disabled people and their families to talk about the new disability reform scheme in WA and to hear the message – ‘don’t toy with our lives’.

Hundreds of toys carry messages from disabled people in WA and family members – the Hon Alanna Clohesy and Senator Rachel Siewert were also in attendance.

I went with a few members of the Deafblind community – We are lobbying for a guarantee of no disadvantage – that West Australians with disability and their families will not be disadvantaged in any way compared to other Australians.

We also want to make sure that any decisions made about the scheme – from governance to the fine operational detail – are reviewed by disabled people and their families before they happen. If you’re going to pick the best bits from each scheme, we want you to ‘show us the best bits!’

To convey our message to the Minister and WA Government, we set up hundreds of toys bearing messages from disabled people and their families on the steps of Parliament House.

Kind regards
